“ Shean Pao has created a world of wonder and filled it with unforgettable characters. Her world-building skills are exceptional. From the towering spires to the everyday rituals, she builds a cohesive construct that draws you in to a story of young love, family devotion and palace intrigue. Her heroes, Mokole and Jochmiere are the latest young adult literary icons. From Mokole's heart-breaking love affair with the surface dweller Ceara to his sister Jochmiere'e royal-arranged wedding, Pao's dialogue takes you by the heart strings and doesn't let go. Rebellion, assassination plots and royal succession frames this powerful tale of a family trying to survive in a world with a very stifling caste system. The magic of her mer-people is presented in such a believable, convincing way. Her style and rhythm gives The Hunger Games a run for its money. I hope that Shean Pao chooses to revisit the Kingdom of Muirro soon, as I can't wait to go with her. ”
